Junior Champ sells to 4800gns

  • Monday, 24 November 2008 12:42

Prices peaked at 4800gns for the junior champion at the NI Charolais Club’s autumn show and sale in Dungannon Farmers Mart.. Drumconnis Colossus ,a Doonally new son by an Organdi dam which was exhibited by John McGrath, Dromore was knocked down to Vivian McGee, Dungannon

who has bought a number of quality Charolais in recent years to build up his pedigree herd.

Following close behind in the price stakes was the senior male and overall supreme champion of the show, Castlenure Cody, another Doonally New son exhibited by Patterson Stewart of Omagh. Hugh Lennox of Magherafelt was on the lookout for a quality sire and, as under bidder on the junior champion decided he would not miss the supreme champion and paid 3900 gns to secure it.

The prices certainly followed the judging carried out by David Bothwell, one of the club’s younger judges who has brought out many champion and top priced animals from his own herd over the past couple of years.

Next in line was the reserve junior champion , Tonaghmore Charles presented by Harold Crawford, Fintona. Martin Donaghy had his eye on this entry as it was sired by

Crannon Vincent, a bull which he bred and which won the junior male champion at the NI National Charolais Show at Fintona. He was sold privately after this to Harold Crawford and has been breeding well in the Crawford herd producing the female champion at the club’s June show and sale this year. Martin paid 3800gns to secure this lot.

William Nelson, Rosslea carried off the reserve supreme championship with yet another Doonally new son, Drumacritten Clementine which sold to Andrew Gault, Ballyclare for 3300gns

Cormac McKervey, Agriculture Manager, Ulster Bank who sponsored the event was delighted with the quality on offer and was pleased to present the championship rosettes to the winners. There were 33 bulls sold to average £2142.00.
