Charolais sell to 3800gns

A top price of 3800gns was paid for the only elite bull at the Northern Ireland Charolais Club show and sale held in Ballymena Livestock Mart on 4 June 2007. This first prizewinning December 05 bull, Backburn Arnie from David Jones herd at Nutts Corner is an Allanfauld Superscot son out of a Derrygiff Mills daughter. With a beef value of 31, he met keen bidding before being knocked down to A M McFarlane, Dungiven.

The bull standing in second place to this top priced animal was also second in the price stakes with Douglas Morrow from Coleraine selling Ramrad Bradley, a January 06 son of Oldstone Egbert with a beef value of 26 to Elton Beckett, Lisburn for 2500gns.

Another second prizewinner from John Erskine’s herd at Killylea, Co. Armagh made 2000gns, when FJ Mallon of Londonderry purchased Dartonhall Beano, a superior Doonally New son with a beef value of 25.

Ian Rea of Crumlin sold Ballymather Bill a Moyness Maharajah grandson out of a

Doonally New daughter to J. Smyth, Randalstown for 1900gns.

The supreme champion of the show was Kilbridefarm Bona, an Allanfauld Superscot son from W H Robson and Sons, Ballyclare. He sold to Robert Fleck, Ballymena for 1850 gns.

The 15 bulls sold averaged £1886 and the one female on offer made 1300gns. She was exhibited by Billy O’Kane, Ballymena and sold to Matthew Connor, Upperlands.

Prior to the sale the judging was carried out by Ben Simpson, Pomeroy who did a most professional job for one of the breed’s youngest judges. John Parkinson, Marketing Manager of Moore Concrete who sponsored the event was on hand to distribute the rosettes to the winners.

2500 gns - D Morrow, Coleraine, Ramrad Bradley (Oldstone Egbert) to Elton Beckett, Lisburn

2000 gns - J A & F C Erskine, Killylea, Dartonhall Beano (Doonally New) to Francis Mallon, Londonderry

1900 gns - Ian Rea, Crumlin, Ballymather Bill,( Kilbridefarm Regal) to J. Smyth, Randalstown

1850 gns - W H Robson & Sons, Ballyclare, Kilbridefarm Bona ( Allanfauld Superscot) to Robert Fleck, Ballymena

1800 gns - D Morrow, Coleraine, Ramrad Adder ( Oldstone Egbert) to Brian O’Neill, Rasharkin

1650 gns - W McVey, Carnlough, Ballyvaddy Bruno (Ballyvaddy Utopia) to David Steele, Glenarm

1600 gns - J McHenry, Ballymoney, Kilmahamog Bruno (Sheehills Ulick) to J. Farlow, Coleraine.

1500 gns - S Hammond, Stewartstown, Shanlieve Babbit (Tullyconnaught Vale) to James Kane, Ballyclare

1500 gns - Cecil Robinson, Ballygowan, Tullygirvan Vaz (Doonally New) to Felix McKendry, Broughshane.
