Charolais demand reaches 7000gns

Demand for Charolais continued unabated with bulls at the Northern Ireland Charolais Club’s April 2007 show and sale in Dungannon selling to 7000gns with an average of £2314 for the 22 bulls sold. The females sold to 3300 guineas and averaged £1885 for seven heifers.

Judge, Danny McKay had his eye on Dartonhall Amazon , a superior carcase bull, from his arrival in the ring and awarded him the senior male championship, overall male and eventually supreme champion of the show. He then went on to bid to 7000gns to acquire this breeding line. Bred by John Erskine

Bulls and Female Red Hot Trade

A top price of 7000gns, a bull average of £2553 for the 46 bulls sold, a heifer average of £3024 for five heifers and a cow and calf unit selling for 4200gns. These were the outstanding features at the Northern Ireland Charolais club’s show and sale in Dungannon Farmers Mart in March 2007.

After making the record of 32,000gns for a Northern Ireland bred bull at Perth, John McMordie, Ballygowan continued his success by taking the Northern Bank’s reserve overall male champion and top price of the show, in addition to selling 3

Charolais sell to 3800gns

A top price of 3800gns was paid for the only elite bull at the Northern Ireland Charolais Club show and sale held in Ballymena Livestock Mart on 4 June 2007. This first prizewinning December 05 bull, Backburn Arnie from David Jones herd at Nutts Corner is an Allanfauld Superscot son out of a Derrygiff Mills daughter. With a beef value of 31, he met keen bidding before being knocked down to A M McFarlane, Dungiven.

The bull standing in second place to this top priced animal was also second in the price stakes with Douglas Morrow from Coleraine selling Ramrad Bradley, a January 06 son of Oldstone Egbert with a beef value of 26 to Elton Beckett, Lisburn for 2500gns.

Another second prizewinner from John Erskine’s herd at Killylea, Co. Armagh made 2000gns, when FJ Mallon of Londonderry purchased Dartonhall Beano, a superior Doonally New son with a beef value of 25.

Charolais flying trade reaches 7500gns

Buyers of quality cattle were out in force at the Northern Ireland Charolais Club’s autumn show and sale of bulls in Dungannon Farmers Mart in November 2007 and the furious bidding highlighted the fact that the quality they required was at this event.

Topping the bill was John Erskine’s, Dartonhall Brandy which realised 7500 gns and was knocked down to a consortium of three buyers – Sean McGovern, Martin Donaghy and Gregory Donnelly, who earlier this year won the Royal Highland Show with the sire of this bull.

The conformation and turn out of this June 06 superior bull made him a major attraction at the event and judge, John McMordie awarded him the reserve supreme championship title. He also has a wealth of breeding behind him, with his sire, Ashleigh Victor,
