The Northern Ireland Charolais trade followed the furious demand experienced in Perth resulting in a second average record price for the breed in a matter of weeks.

Of the 47 bulls on offer, at the Northern Ireland Charolais Club’s show and sale in Dungannon 46 were sold to average £3332.50.

Leading the trade was the reserve supreme champion and junior male champion, Atnaveigh Cracker from the herd of S and R Thompson, Newry. This Doonally New son out of a Gretnahouse Meikle daughter carrying the Tamery prefix was quickly snapped up by Colin Hamilton, Castlederg.

Following close behind was the supreme champion, Killadeas Colum from Stuart and David Bothwell’s herd at Ballinamallard. There were two entries making the 5000gn mark with Trevor Phair from Enniskillen selling Brogher Cracker, a Doonally New son out of a home bred dam by Oldstone Egbert to A. Magill, Carnlough, while Basil Buchanan sold Tarabe Collin, a Royal Picasso son out of a Blakestown dam to Edward McErlean of Portglenone.
