Coolnaslee Sale 6th June
Gilbert Crawford is set to host the largest Production Sale of Charolais Cattle in UK and Ireland 0n the 6th of June at Dungannon Farmer’s Mart. Over 100 Charolais from his noted Coolnaslee Herd will come under the hammer without reserve comprising of cows & calves, in calf heifers, maiden heifers, and a selection of Senior and Junior Bulls ready for work. All are eligible for immediate export.
Gilbert Crawford sourced some of the best females available to found his Coolnaslee herd, and has spent nearly two decades dedicated not only to the improvement of his own cattle, but also promoting the Charolais breed at every opportunity. The decision to host a Production Sale has been prompted solely by overstocking.
“The Coolnaslee Herd has increased in size to over 200 pedigree cattle. Gilbert told Farm Week. The Charolais cattle that we have included in the catalogue represent some of the best bloodlines that we have to offer. The stock will be shown in their working clothes, and buyers can bid with confidence as the sale is being held under the auspices of the Charolais Cattle Society. Every animal will be transferred to its new owner without charge.”
The Coolnaslee name has continually hit the headlines as it notched up endless show and sale championships, including Supreme Charolais Champion at Balmoral Show 2007. In addition Coolnaslee have earned top honours at the National Charolais Show and at Decotmax Championships. For those who keep an eye on sale returns, Coolnaslee once again has enjoyed great success with bulls selling regularly at five figured sums at Perth. Top price to date has been Coolnaslee Universe selling for 17,000 guineas.
David Benson, Chief Executive of the British Charolais Cattle Society disclosed to Farm Week that this auction is “an absolute must for established and new breeder’s alike – the Coolnaslee prefix has enjoyed tremendous success to date, and is rated as one of the leading herd’s throughout the UK.”
Over 100 lots are catalogued in this Major Production Sale, representing the largest sale of its kind to be held in the UK this year. Auctioneer Trevor Wylie commented “There is something for everyone at the Coolnaslee Auction with cows and calves, in calf heifers and a fine selection of maiden heifers to tempt purchaser’s. A feature of the sale will be the inclusion of two Senior Stock Bulls, including the highly rated Oscar Sydney. Ten young bulls ready for work complete the line up.”
Senior Stock Bull at Coolnaslee is the noted “Allanfauld Superscot”(by Gretnhouse Noel) purchased at Perth for 14,000 guineas. He has become a household name, with sons selling to 32,000 guineas for Solitude Attaboy. His daughters are also a success story reaching 8000 guineas for Coolnaslee Violet at NI Charolais Club Show & Sale at Dungannon. Her dam is included in the sale with a full sister to Violet at foot.
A recent addition to the herd was Sandleford Berkamp (by Goldies Usher), purchased in a private five-figured deal from George Henderson, following his outstanding results at Balmoral Show 2007 where he was Junior Charolais Champion and Interbreed Performance Beef Bull Champion. His first calves have just hit the ground, and they are impressive so far. He has been used extensively as service sire throughout the herd.
Sires, which were used extensively and delivered terrific results, include Derrygiff Mills, Brampton Justwilliam and Roundhill Ohoh. Their progeny feature throughout the catalogue.
