A Charolais bull named after the Arsenal player, Bergkamp took the Beef Interbreed bull performance championship at Balmoral Show.

Sandelford Bergkamp , aptly named by George and Gary Henderson, who own a sports outfitters and equipment business in Coleraine, took the award over all breeds for the highest combination of points in the show ring and on performance.

With a beef value of 34 this March 06 bull is by Goldies Usher, a sire purchased at Carlisle three years ago for 14,000gns. He is out of a Major daughter, Sandelford Seles which was named after the tennis player, Monica Selles. Bergkamp was also a red rosette winner in the Charolais ring for bulls born January to March 2006.

The breed championship was taken by new exhibitors in the Balmoral show ring when Stewart Murphy, Dungannon and Derek Campton, Cookstown exhibited an outstanding heifer, Lisdadnan Amy to take the supreme award. Amy is a Pirate daughter and is out of a Doonally New daughter. She was purchased at Carrick on Shannon in December last year where she was the reserve champion and made the top heifer price of 7700 euros.

Giving her a run for her money was Gilbert Crawford’s stock bull , Ballindalloch UFO, who was last year’s Charolais champion and reserve in the Beef Interbreed awards. Bred by R. Irvine and F C Lawson this Inverlochy Resolve son gave the judge, Tom Arnott, food for thought before making his final decision.
